Comments:
The June 19, 1891 edition of The Burlington Free Press featured an article titled "BIG FIRE IN SWANTON". The paper reported that "the coverd bridge, together with the Prouty mill and dry kild, burned this morning". "The bridge was a lattice structure and was built in 1871, at a cost of $5000; insured for $3000". Per the Swanton Courier, June 19, 1891, "The covered bridge and Prouty's planing mill were totally destroyed by fire yesterday morning… The covered bridge was built about 20 years ago and cost $800."
