Comments:
This bridge was 41' long when it was originally built. High water weakened and washed out one abutment in 1843. Sanford Granger was hired to raise the bridge and lengthen it to 65'. It was replaced in 1953. Coordinates are at a possible location of the bridge. Per The Brattleboro Reformer, November 7, 1942, "Extensive repairs are being made by the town on the old covered bridge known as the Lewis bridge on the back road to Bellows Falls. An entire new floor is being laid."
