Comments:
In March 1910, the Connecticut River Power Company dynamited the ice to relieve stress on the Broad Brook Bridge. The vacuum created by the blast caused air pressure within the bridge to tear off all the boards on one side of the bridge. Per the North Adams Transcript, December 12, 1929, a truck loaded high with transformers deroofed the bridge on December 10, 1929. Per The Brattleboro Reformer, August 7, 1930, "Work on the new bridge at Broad Brook in Vernon has been progressing rapidly the past week or two, and it is expected the bridge will be finished by next week." This bridge replaced the covered bridge.
