Comments:
Per the Vermont Watchman and State Journal (Montpelier), March 15, 1844, "Bridge gone---At Waterbury, over Onion River." It is not clear if this applies to VT/45-12-69 or VT/45-12-70 (or if it was a predecessor non-covered bridge). Per The Boston Globe, July 10, 1885, "Waterbury, Vt., July 10.--A cyclone, with terrific lightning, thunder and rain, reached here at 1:30 p.m. yesterday from the southwest. The covered wooden bridge across the Winooski river, 212 feet span, was blown into the water and completely destroyed; damage $5000." The bridge was rebuilt. The second one was a single span Howe truss, with large diagonal portals and vertical siding which was lost in the 1927 flood.
