Comments:
This one-lane bridge was the primary access to the Montpelier Railroad station. According to the January 1905 Sanborn Maps for Montpelier, VT-12-43, VT-12-53, VT-12-54 and VT-12-55 were still wooden covered bridges. According to the March 1915 Sanborn Maps for Montpelier, VT-12-43 and VT-12-54 were still wooden covered bridges. Per The Bethel Courier, November 17, 1927, "Taylor street bridge back of Montpelier Tavern went down onto the Central Vermont railroad bridge below the station, knocking it off its foundation." It was washed downstream and ended up in the National Life Athletic Field. A through-truss steel bridge was built at this location by the Berlin Construction Company of Berlin, CT, in 1929.
