Comments:
County Bridge #23. The first covered bridge at this location was washed away during the winter of 1942/1943. Due to World War II steel shortages, it was replaced with a new covered bridge in 1943. In 2012 Greene County received a grant from the National Historic Covered Bridge Preservation Program for $650,000 to “replace deteriorated timbers and install steel beams to keep this historic bridge in a state of good repair and to allow it to continue to carry vehicular traffic.” Unfortunately, a decision was made to completely replace the bridge. In September 2013, a worker at the site indicated that “no parts of the previous bridge were used to rebuild this bridge.” The latest bridge was completed by the end of 2013. It is oriented northeast to southwest on a slight angle to the road, which is aligned north to south.
