Comments:
The construction date had previously been listed as 1832. However, The Canton Independent-Sentinel of March 6, 1913 (page 1) noted that it was built in 1848. Damaged by a flood on December 5 or 15, 1901. One span was destroyed by fire twice and rebuilt. Length estimated based on aerial scaling. The Canton Independent-Sentinel of June 19, 1913 (page 1) reported that the county commissioners had awarded contracts to replace both of the covered bridges at Towanda and Athens.
