Comments:
A.S. Miller and Lee Hoffman began construction of the bridge at Portland in the spring of 1874. The Hayden Ferry Bridge was started shortly after and Miller worked on both simultaneously. The Hayden Ferry Bridge was accepted in November and Miller was paid $3,375, half of the contract price with the remainder to be collected from public conscriptions. It was replaced with a steel bridge in 1927.
