Comments:
The Richard P. Eastman Hyde Road Covered Bridge in Yellow Springs is named in honor of Dick Eastman who was the Greene County Engineer from 1974 through 1996. Mr. Eastman died in 2011 at age 91. The new covered bridge replaced an uncovered deteriorated steel bridge that’s been closed for a year. The new structure is a 77-foot span Howe Truss designed by Smolen Engineering of Ashtabula and built by R.G. Zachrich Construction of Defiance at a cost of $480,000. Half of the project was funded by the Ohio Public Works Commission and the other half by the County Bridge Levy. A ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication was held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014.
