Comments:
Closed. 14-panel truss. While oral tradition says this bridge was built was 1850, other records say 1854. The bridge replaced a smaller bridge built in 1828. In 1847, a mill owned by Mr. Van Dorn, stood by the bridge. It was later owned by David Cade, one of the agents appointed by the county to superintend construction of the covered bridge. Unfortunately, the mill was struck by lightning and burned sometime in the late 1940s or early 1950s. In 1976, the bridge was bypassed by a modern bridge. As of 2024, the bridge is cared for by the Fountain County Arts Council on behalf of Fountain County. The bridge received extensive repairs in 2024 and 2025. A dedication of the structure on Sunday, June 8th, 2025, was attended by about 80 people. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 24, 2021.
