Comments:
Arches were added in later years for added support, possibly during the 1922 repairs? Per The Brattleboro Daily Reformer, August 11, 1922, "WORK BEGUN ON COVERED BRIDGE - Structure Near Williamsville Station Leaning Upstream---Is Closed and Traffic Detoured. A good start has been made this week on the work of repairing and strengthening the covered wooden bridge near Williamsville station on the Newfane road. The bridge is closed during the progress of the work, which is expected will take from two to three weeks, and traffic is detoured through Williamsville. The bridge is leaning upstream, said to have been caused by traffic coming upon it on a curve, and will be straightened. A new cement foundation will be put in, new stringers will be put in and a new floor will be laid. There is also a possibility that the bridge will be covered with steel roofing." Per The Brattleboro Reformer, January 4, 1938, "Erection and riveting of steel work for the Williamsville Station bridge across Marlboro branch, replacing the 100-year-old covered bridge several hundred feet upstream on route 30, will be completed this week, District Highway Commissioner Paul Stevens announced today. Work will then be suspended on the project untill the latter part of March, when the floor will be laid and approaches surfaced." Per the Springfield Reporter, January 18, 1940, "COVERED BRIDGE---Workmen began tearing down the century-old covered bridge at the Williamsville station last week under the direction of District Highway Commissioner Paul M. Stevens of Brattleboro. The bridge, erected over a branch of the West river in 1837, was superseded a short time ago by a cement bridge farther down the stream. The old bridge is being removed to prevent possible damage to the new structure."
