Comments:
According to one source, the first bridge at this site was built in 1828 by Theodore Burr, but either the year is in error, or there was another builder, as Burr died about 1822. It was a seven span Burr Truss type with a length of 1350'. According to the original records, the bridge "gave way" on March 17, 1875 and was rebuilt the same year, but with a Howe Truss. The builder was the Smith Bridge Company of Toledo, Ohio and this bridge was built on the abutments and piers of the first bridge. The second bridge was washed away on March 9, 1904 and was replaced by an iron truss bridge. The coordinates given are at the center of the present bridge.
