Comments:
11-panel truss. Per The Caledonian-Record (St. Johnsbury), October 15, 1948, "Barnet Bridge Coming Down Covered Span Being Wrecked — Work On New Bridge Already Started The old covered bridge in the village of Barnet, one of the landmarks of the state and one of the last survivals from a quieter and less hectic age, is being tom down today. Wrecking operations on the old bridge, which is located on the state-aid road to West Barnet and Peacham, will continue while a new concrete structure of modern design is being erected to take its place. The new bridge will cross the Stevens River with a 96-foot span and will be built of steel and concrete by the Wilson Construction Company of Montpelier. At present while the old covered structure is being dismantled a new center pier is being put in place. Cement for this pier is now being poured and will provide the central source of support for the new bridge. Barnet's covered bridge was condemned by the state earlier in the year and the new steel bridge was suggested to the selectmen."
