Comments:
6-panel truss. Construction dates of 1878 or 1872 are also offered. The 1878 date may refer to a nearby bridge - VT/45-03-53). This location is the last Vermont covered bridge on a numbered state highway. Per The St. Johnsbury Index, July 29, 1881, "Lyndon Centre. The new covered bridge over Miller’s Run is a good substantial one, and just the thing needed." After two fatal accidents near the bridge, the state proposed to remove it and redesign the nearby intersection. Townspeople argued for its preservation and ultimately, the bridge was taken apart and rebuilt with a steel structure for support in 1995. The new bridge includes a walkway that wasn't on the original. Some lumber from the original bridge was included in the new one.
