Comments:
According to an interpretive sign at the bridge, Pont Decelles-Fortin, formerly Decelles, was built in 1938, on the site of a private bridge constructed by Charles Fortin to access his land at the beginning of the twentieth century. As land was being developed on the north side of the Yamaska, the residents presented a request to the municipal administration to establish a bridge and a public road, agreeing to cede the portions of land necessary for the project. Ernest Decelles presented the petition and the bridge was named after him. In the 1960s, the bridge was sagging so tension rods were added for extra support. Protective barriers (“headache bars”) were added in 1996. It was closed to traffic between 2000 and 2007. The repairs in 2007 included raising the bridge.
