Comments:
8-panel truss. When the bridge was standing, it connected what is now called Shickshinny Lake Road to Waterton Road (both SR4006 - LR40076). What is now Route 239 formerly joined Waterton Road as the base of a "T" intersection, then turning left to cross over the bridge. After the bridge was crossed, Shickshinney road was straight ahead and a right turn was what is now called Mill Street (T474) which is the old section of Route 239 on that side. Per The Morning Press (Bloomsburg), May 18, 1927, "TO BUILD BRIDGE - Luzerne Commissioners Award Contract for One at Huntington Mills - "At a meeting of the Luzerne county commissioners, the contract for erecting a new bridge over the creek at Huntington Mills to replace the present covered wooden bridge, was awarded to R. H. Benson Co., of Athens, at its bid of $18,301.76. The lowest bid, that of the I. F. Helper Co., was withdrawn, being about $1,000 less. There were 10 bidders for the contract, some being as high as $30,000." Per The Morning Press (Bloomsburg), October 20, 1927, "Covered Bridge Closed - The covered bridge at Huntington Mills is now closed because of the construction work on the new state road between Huntington Mills and Benton. The road between Huntington Mills and Shickshinny has been open for traffic two weeks."
