Comments:
On May 14, 1862 the town voted to build a wooden bridge on stone abutments over the Contoocook River on the new road to Henniker to replace a stone bridge lost in the spring 1852 freshet. The cost was not to exceed $2500. The Town did not want to replace it citing insufficient travel, however, they were ordered by the court to do so. In 1936, the road was realigned and the bridge was replaced by a steel through truss slightly north of the covered bridge location.
